Also, Millie seemed a little too clever for someone with a low IQ—could she have successfully hidden pills, and would she have been able to cook up such a scheme?

Behind Closed Doors is sure to be a huge success, and has definitely made it into my Top Ten Books of 2015. Laurence was a good brother to you and Kim, and I loved his brave character of taking all the blame and getting all the beatings just to cover you up.

I finished Behind Closed Doors about half an hour ago, and my heart still feels like it’s racing, probably not helped by me forgetting to breathe throughout the majority of the book. Even with Millie's privately managed welfare, it's not entirely believable to me that a bloke can just rock up, sign a few papers, and become someone with Down's syndrome's legal guardian. He wins her over when he saves an awkward moment—dancing the waltz at the park bandstand with Grace’s sister, Millie, who has Down Syndrome. I did love the “past” to “present” throughout the story and how it all tied in together towards the end.

Grace I thought at times was shallow, but the more I read the more I could understand her situation.Jenny Tomlin gives an extreme account of what went on in her house - behind closed doors - for many years, including her young life before she went to school.
