Description

Acceptance of repentance by Allah (swt) is only for those who commit evil out of ignorance, then repent promptly. It is such whose repentance Allah (swt) will accept, and Allah (swt) is all-Knowing, all-Wise."( 4:17) O Allah! Forgive every sin that I have committed and every error that I have erred O Allah! I endeavour to draw myself nigh to Thee through Thy invocation And I pray to Thee to intercede on my behalf And I entreat Thee by Thy benevolence to draw me nearer to Thee And grant me that I should be grateful to Thee and inspire me to remember and to invoke Thee So, my Lord! I look earnestly towards Thee and towards Thee, my Lord! I have stretched forth my hands therefore, by Thy honour, respond to my supplication and let me attain my wishes and, by Thy bounty, frustrate not my hopes and protect me from the evils of my enemies, from among the jinns and mankind o' Thou! Who readily pleased, forgive one who owns nothing but supplication for Thou doest what Thou willest o' Thou! Imam Ali then advised Kumayl to recite this "Du'a" on the eve of (i.e. evening preceding) every Friday, or once a month or at least once in every year so that, added Imam Ali, "Allah may protect thee from the evils of the enemies and the plots contrived by impostors. O' Kumayl! in consideration of thy companionship and understanding, I grant thee this honour of entrusting this "Du'a" to thee." Here Imam 'Ali (a) refers to some of the blessings of God towards His sinful servant. It is God who has covered their sins from other people and has removed so many calamities from them, their family, their friends and so on. It is He (swt) Who, through His favour, gave His servant such dignity and reputation among people even though it was never deserved and if people knew everything about them they would cease to praise them anymore.

Thou wouldst have made the hell cold and peaceful and there would never have been an abode or place for any one in it; but sanctified be Thy Names, Thou hast sworn to fill the hell with the disbelievers from amongst the jinns and mankind together and to place forever Thy enemies therein In addition to maghfirat, Imam 'Ali (a) also makes other requests including the ability to remember God. Regarding this, he (a) says, Those who deny God will be punished while those who fight against Him (swt) will be in hell forever. Thus, those who deny Him (swt) but do not fight against Him (swt) may remain in hellfire for a while and not forever. Then he said: “O Kumayl! When you memorize this du’a’, recite it every Thursday night, or once in a month, or once in a year or once in your lifetime, and Allah will save you from enemies, help you, extend your sustenance, and forgive your sins. O Kumayl! Your extended and faithful service has made me teach you such a blissful du’a’.” Then he said: “Write it down!” And he then recited it to me.With his ingenuity and cleverness, Khwaja understood that Ibn e Hajib was hiding in that person’s house and it was his thought. Interestingly, although in such a bad condition, we still ask God to complete His favour towards us! If a person solves 90% of someone else's problems, only solving the remaining 10% would make them a perfect benefactor. If someone invites us to their house and provides us with every kind of facility, food and so on and only forgets to bring us water, then we would not call them a perfect host. If we open a school for poor students and throughout the school year we offer them everything needed and only close the school for a week, claiming that they have received 95% of their education, then that would have a negative effect on them. Regarding this, an Arabic maxim says

Therefore, my Lord! I implore Thee by Thy greatness not to let my sins and my misdeeds shut out access to my prayers from reaching Thy realm and not to disgrace me by exposing those (hidden ones) of which Thou hast knowledge nor to hasten my retribution for those vices and misdeeds committed by me in secret which were due to evil mindedness, ignorance, excessive lustfulness and my negligenceKumayl Ibn Ziyad was a prominent companion of Amir al Muminin, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as.) and this sublime Dua was first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Imam Ali.

He died nine years before the conquest of Baghdad and wasn’t alive at the time of the advent of Halaku and Khwaja Naseer ud Deen Toosi, that would force him to sit on a vessel filled with blood. d) The last part of the above-mentioned phrase in which Imam 'Ali (a) asks God to have a share in every kind of goodness, favour and virtue granted by God, shows his truly great true ambition. This teaches us that we should always have great intentions and never limit them. Therefore, if someone is only able to help 10 people, it is nevertheless recommended that they intend that they wants to help all people. While on a practical level it is true that they cannot help more than 10 people, however having such a great intention will result in them receiving the reward of helping all people. SourcesFor him, it would be an intolerable punishment to see others receiving God's mercy while he (a) was rejected since he (a) had loved Him (swt) and hoped for His mercy all his life. Is it possible that God puts into hell someone who had loved Him (swt) and declared that He (swt) is his Lord and the only Lord? Is it possible that God places and leaves in hell the one who is calling upon Him (swt)? Certainly such a person cannot remain in hell: Such sort (of harshness) is not expected from Thee as it is remote from Thy grace, o' generous one! O' Lord! Thou art aware of my weakness to bear even a minor affliction of this world and its consequence and adversity affecting the denizen of this earth, although such afflictions are momentary, short-lived and transient O' Allah! Be in friend with those that paid them allegiance, and be in enmity with their enemies, help those that render assistance to them and let down those that betray them. On the other hand, God has put His dissatisfaction (sakhat) among sins. Here again we do not know which sin is meant and thus we should not take any risk by doing any sin because it may be that very sin that brings about Divine anger. Regarding this, Imam 'Ali (a) has been quoted as saying,

DUA E KUMAYL recited by Bassem Karbalai with English DUA E KUMAYL recited by Bassem Karbalai with English

O Allah! Except Thee I do not find any one able to pardon my sins nor to conceal my loathsome acts Nor have I any one except Thee to change my evil deeds into virtues There is no god but Thou glory and praise be to Thee I have made my own soul to suffer I had the audacity (to sin) by my ignorance Relying upon my past remembrance of Thee and Thy grace towards me O Allah! Great is Thy kingdom and exalted is Thy greatness Thy plan is secret, Thy authority is manifest, Thy might is victorious and subduing and Thy power is prevalent throughout and it is not possible to escape from Thy dominion Thy munificence towards me and through Thy mercy protect me and cause my tongue to accentuate Thy remembrance and my heart filled with Thy love and be liberal to me by Thy gracious response and cause my evils to appear fewer and forgive me my errors. O Allah! I beg Thee by Thy greatness to be compassionate to me in all circumstances and well disposed towards me in all matters My God! My Nourisher! Have I anyone except Thee from whom I can seek the dislodging of my evils and understanding of my problems?O' Allah! Curse those that oppress them, and hasten their relief and destroy their enemies among the Jinn and the men from the beginning to the end of the time, (Amen), O' the Lord of the worlds.O' Allah! Grant us the opportunity to visit them in this world and grant us their intercession in the world Hereafter, resurrect us within their group, and under their banner, O' Allah don't distinguish between us and them even in a twinkling of eye in this world and in the world Hereafter; with Your Mercy, O' the Most Mercy of the merciful.[1] All the people are tearful in the Hereafter except three: one who closes his eyes to what Allah forbade, one who remains alive for Allah, and one cries for the fear of Allah at midnight. 5 Hellfire is a necessity of creation and its philosophy; otherwise, God would close it down and turn it into a kind of paradise. And Thou, exalted be Thy praises, hadst made manifest, out of Thy generosity and kindness, that a believer is not like unto him who is an evil-liver. My God! My Master! Thou decreed a law for me but instead I obeyed my own low desires And I did not guard myself against the allurements of my enemy He deceived me with vain hopes whereby I was led astray and fate helped him in that respect Thus I transgressed some of its limits set for me by Thee and I disobeyed some of Thy commandments;
