Jordan Belfort’s journey in this film isn’t one that should be admired or celebrated. He did some despicable things in his life, and ruined the lives of a lot of other people in the process. The Wolf of Wall Street is comparable to seeing a car crash. It’s something you can’t look away from no matter how grisly the scene becomes. Watching this film can definitely turn your stomach at times, but it also serves as a cautionary tale in doing what it takes to get to the top. The story benefits largely thanks to such a great cast of characters, Leonardo DiCaprio especially, as well as Margot Robbie and Jonah Hill, who flourish under the direction of Scorsese. The Wolf of Wall Street Round Table (HD; 10:57) is an archival discussion featuring Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, Scorsese also pulls off a very successful CGI effects scene, something he didn’t do well in pictures like his The Aviator (also wth DiCaprio). Belfort’s yacht runs into a monster storm, and we welcome the sight of the gigantic waves smashing into it. Either the oversized scale fits everything else in this bigger-than-life story, or an ocean disaster is the perfect action break from the intense drama. There is some excellent audio mixing in this movie especially considering all the dialogue that happens throughout. It’s definitely a movie worth listening to at higher volume to hear all the details. A good pair of headphones (if you need to keep the volume down) also provides a good spatial experience. Bonus Material The 2014 Wolf of Wall StreetBlu-ray set a high bar for its 4K UHD upgrade, but this 2160p/HEVC H.265 transfer with Dolby Vision rises to the challenge and eclipses its exceptional predecessor. Before anyone gets too excited, though, it's important to note the improvements are subtle and rarely produce the hoped-for jaw-dropping reactions. In other words, this disc is no Casino, but let's face it, The Wolf of Wall Street is a different, far less flashy entity. Shot by cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (who would go on to photograph Silence and The Irishman for Scorsese), the film sports a colder, less elegant look to reflect New York's harsh concrete jungle and the financial world's sterile corporate atmosphere. Heightened clarity, better contrast, and bolder color distinguish this transfer, which - according to a Paramount press release - was "supervised by Scorsese,"but there's a limit to how far the picture's various elements can be pushed. Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the lead role of Jordan Belfort, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. Jonah Hill, cast as Belfort’s business partner Donnie Azoff, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.

understandable exceptions for supposed "low res" moments like the opening commercial or later "video cam" segments do occur, and it's probably in already incredibly vivid palette in the 1080 version is only improved courtesy of Dolby Vision and/or HDR in this 4K UHD iteration, and some of the While one might be forgiven in thinking that the gains of a 4K release of a relatively new film would be marginal, a comparison of images taken from the previous 1080p release (note that this reviewer hasn’t seen the 2021 Paramount 4K UHD release) and this new release form Arrow show that this just isn’t the case.
