I had watched the BR movies years ago, but reading the novel version of it still manages to provide new insight to different subjects: human nature, freedom and survival etc.

In the afterword, Takami mentions Stephen King and Robert Parker as his big influences and I think it shows in the text. The explosive collars are straight out of the Running Man movie (not from the novel). The intro reminded me of the intro to Needful Things.In 2000, one year after publication, Battle Royale was adapted into a manga series, written by Takami himself, and a feature film. The film was both controversial and successful, becoming one of the year's highest-grossing films as well as prompting condemnation by Japan's National Diet. Hauptaussage: Der Inhalt ist komplett von Battle Royale abgekupfert. Daher wollte ich seither meine eigene Meinung bilden, hatte das Buch dann aber irgendwie aus den Augen verloren. Nun habe ich mir diese ziemlich cool aussehende Remastered Edition gegönnt, die ein sehr verstörendes Cover hat und allgemein von der Aufmachung her richtig gut aussieht.
