There are points where it does get serious and it reels you in but otherwise, it takes on a casual tone for almost everything including events that can be highly triggering. Kitty Collins, 29 and an Instagram influencer living the high life of leisure with her three closest friends; left a grandiose apartment in Chelsea, after her meat processing business entrepreneur dad disappeared and her mum emigrated to France, she hasn't date for awhile, oh and she kills men, well, just bad men, and gets away with it. No one flinches when women get murdered by men in fiction, but I have a hunch some people could get worked up about this book. I was born a Dutchie, but felt that that tiny, rainy country known for tulips, windmills, cheese and of course Amsterdam wasn't my place to be. It's a great summery read for the morbidly inclined and I'm excited to check out the author's follow-up.

There are rules, of course, the most important is to not get caught, but Kitty also has a stalker who seems to know every move she makes. Even though her father disappeared when she was young, and her mother fled to the south of France shortly after. The story starts hard and fast, with Kitty performing her very first kill, detailing what it’s like to see the light leave a man’s eyes as she strangles him to death. In serious cases, we realise that a deranged mind, if not given the desired help, can cause serious damage and this book highlights that aspect.I was expecting this to be full-on cosy crime humour, but this has a close-to-home, hard-hitting angle to the murdery storyline. In any case, yeah, she had gone through a bad breakup or something and this guy comes onto her in a really obnoxious way at this place and she kills him. Never thought I’d get such enjoyment from reading books but here I am feeling like a brand new woman! No, I don’t think a tiny woman in her twenties would be able to dispatch of big burly blokes with such ease but hey, it isn’t marketing itself as piece of social realism or as a serious read. The plot was interesting but the whole time, I couldn't suspend my disbelief which kept drawing me out of the story because how on earth did Kitty get away with it when her phone was there, she used Tinder and let's not even talk about driving her car to all the places.

But if you can let go of your pop culture education in forensics from TV and true crime books, you too can enjoy Kitty and her one-woman vengeance crusade. The plot itself was actually very boring and don't get me started on the accessibility she had for her victims.
