Description

Money: A User’s Guide by Laura Whateley was published in 2018 and aims to educate young people between the ages of 18 and 40 about how to best handle their money. And we’re proud to say, that some of them even ditched their Financial Advisors, after experiencing the value we provide. It's everything that you know you *need* to know about personal finance but have never bothered reading up on. Laura Whateley is an award-winning journalist and The Times’ consumer champion writing the agony aunt column, ‘Troubleshooter’, and ‘Millennial Money’ in the Saturday Money section. I already knew something about a lot of these topics, but Whateley's clear and casual writing style helped me understand them all even better.

All information found here, including any ideas, opinions, views, predictions expressed or implied herein, are for informational, entertainment or educational purposes only and do not constitute financial advice. Laura Whateley is an award-winning journalist and The Times ’ consumer champion writing the agony aunt column, ‘Troubleshooter’, and ‘Millennial Money’ in the Saturday Money section. For the beginner, the chapter on saving will be helpful because interest rates, inflation, and a variety of savings accounts are explained. There is a helpful section about how ideas from psychology, such as anchoring and overvaluing sales, can impact the way we handle money.

C onsider the appropriateness of the information having regard to your objectives, financial situation and needs, and seek professional advice where appropriate. It explains student loans/savings/investing/mortgages/renting/pensions/debt/etc explained in a friendly, concise way. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Did not know this book was going to use facts based in Europe but nonetheless I learned a lot about what I should do and how to plan for the future. In the next section of the book, Whateley explains the different kinds of debts and how to navigate them. She is a bit defeatist, repeating that it is very hard for anyone to save a deposit without help from parents. For this reason, it’s crucial that we speak to our partners about money and have a solid plan for cohabitation. From a personal perspective, much of the information I was already aware of thanks to being pretty interested in personal finance anyway, but Whateley's book serves as an easily digestible, vital read for anyone interested in setting themselves up for better personal financial management (and without falling into the trap of demanding you cut out every bit of 'fun' spending as some personal finance hawks do).She grew up in the West Country and studied PPE at the University of Warwick before moving to East London.

Despite being a professional with a useful degree, I didn’t actually know much about money outside of my pay cheque, PAYE taxes and my savings account.Written in a digestible, light-hearted way with personal stories scattered throughout, I love this book and recommend to everyone, no matter how clued up you think you are with finance or how much you feel you are 'destined' to always be terrible with money. While many in the FI community believe that this is suboptimal, Whateley is of the opposite conviction. Whateley looks at saving as a necessary evil, not something that can enhance your life and encourage you to decouple happiness from spending. Recomiendo el libro “El camino simple a la riqueza” para quien quiera algo que vaya en la misma linea y mas completo. I’m a bit pissed off about the last woman they gave me because, if she’d bothered to show any interest or genuinely tried to explain anything to me, it might have made a difference these last few years before I thought to try it again. I was keen to learn more about finances, budgeting and savings and heard this book was a great, easy-to-understand guide to learn more about money. This isn't a bad book but I just feel that some of it was pitched at people who really had no idea about the simplest of things.
