I love the super simple look of my old Teva Original Universal, and less like the look of these ones, but this version do certainly offer more support under the foot. This is a personal preference, and we found the cross strap provided a bit more support during upward movement. But, in my humble opinion, the Teva Hurricane XLT 2 should get universal love for the delightfully soft and supportive straps they use to keep your feet secure. It surprised me because the same insoles deal with water quite well, but for some reason the sweat seems to be completely different.
This is Teva’s in-house sole, and the traction is greatly improved from previous versions of the Hurricane.Our testers agree that it's a capable multi-sport sandal that feels more comfortable in and out of the water than its predecessor. The water-ready polyester webbing of the Hurricane XLT 2 stands up to the elements and dries quickly after getting wet, making these the perfect summer shoes for kids who are always in and out of the water and like to scrabble over slippery rocks. With all footwear, I really need to crank down the tension system, whether it’s laces, straps, BOA, etc. The quick-drying webbing is a blend of polyester, nylon, and recycled PET and features a neoprene cushioned heel pad that eliminates hot-spots.

This sandal is the newest update to the long-standing Hurricane XLT model, and we like the added traction and strap comfort. Unlike my other Teva sandals, the ones I spent most of the heatwave that was last summer in, these ones have a moulded footbed designed to be more supportive for the foot and provide better comfort on the trail. The classic Teva design utilizes three adjustable straps that run behind the heel and twice over the top of the foot for a secure, intuitive fit. I used my previous Hurricane XLTs in a similar fashion but found that traction when wet was greatly impaired and the sandal itself felt like walking on a wet washcloth.
