is measured by a full belly: the penguin clan with the most fish at the end of the game is the winner. The online site we use only allows for two-player games and, more importantly, allows for asynchronous playing. Each turn, the active player chooses one of the penguins that remains on the glacier, and he is allowed to move him as far as he wants in a straight line onto a new hexagonal piece; after which he collects the tile where the penguin started (and all of it's tasty fish). Anyway, with luck, your penguins will go sliding around the board, hoovering up all the fish and leaving your competition stranded on small blocs with not-very-many fish.

years after its original release, Next Move Games is making sure the penguins continue to get their fish. You have probably left your foes isolated on a small island of cheap baitfish, where they will waddle uselessly from one end to the other collecting whatever scraps they can. Players take turns using their waddle of penguins to outmanoeuvre their opponents and catch as many fish as they can without being trapped on an ice floe! And when a penguin can't move, it's removed from play with its owner claiming the tile on which it stands. Two or three moves in, you'll realise that simple game mechanics doesn't mean a simple game - you're playing on a board that disintegrates as you go along, leading to rapidly increasing risk of getting stranded.

We bought it as me and my 8 year old enjoy Forbidden Island but it's a little bit on the hard side for her and I was hoping this would be a younger child's version.

It’s not a game I’m busting out a lot on my phone or tablet and is something I have used for friends kids or as a quick intro game with my parents before we fire up a slightly more in depth and engaging app for them such as Ticket to Ride.from a simple, lighthearted game, into a strategic battle that I ponder over as much as I’ve ever studied a Chess board. With the random placement of the hex tiles/ice floes at the start of each game, there is no single strategy to winning. Some mention that it's easy quick to learn, fun for all the family, and has simple and elegant rules. That indicates there was a shark waiting under the floe that eats the penguin who moves off of it, thereby eliminating it from the game.
