Gunmetal Grey: A neutral dark silver but without the warm tint that Anthrax Metal or GW Leadbelcher has. The Skrag Brown wash represents built up rust without going too over the top. With this, highlight all the edges with Stormhost Silver instead of just the sharpest points. That extra definition will help distinguish the steel and bronze, but still look unified. Here you can see some examples of how I applied this colour scheme to other models in the army, varying up the markings and amount of teal and gold depending on the model. Those hazard stripes are not entirely straight. They’re freehanded, and you can see if you look closely that they are neither parallel nor evenly spaced. That’s fine, actually, because the miniature has so much visual confusion from the heavy weathering that the lines are broken and your mind barely notices it. The transfers are especially essential to this formulae – they provide such pops of visual interest that they command the eye to focus on them and not the imperfections on the hazard stripes. Gradually mix in steadily more Evil Sunz Scarlet and layer up each time until it’s nearly pure Evil Sunz Scarlet, gradually getting further and further from the recesses

Step 7: Grab a makeup sponge and apply Typhus Corrision to the barricades to make them a bit grimier. Makeup sponges are super cheap at any local grocery store, and are handy hobby tools!Similar to the weathered bronze, I wanted a weathered silver for the other metals. I figure these guys are in the field in the Realm of Life and it probably rains a lot, and I wanted to sell a theme of antiquity for the army.

I made this decision based on my expertise of the Warhammer 40k universe, the color schemes of the different Space Marine factions and armies are well established, therefore it’s easy to see which paint will look great with the different factions. Stormhost Silver Colour Schemes & Combinations They actually look entirely different from the vehicles, but that works. For these guys the lore is that vehicles are out in the field and the toxic wasteland fighting for months at a time and are beaten to hell, and the infantry are either inside the vehicles or they are dead. You can see in this group shot that they all look fine standing side by side. In fact, the different paint schemes actually help, making the infantry pop rather than blending in to the vehicles behind them.I'm unsure if it would work out the same with the suggested Stormhost Silver base coat with gem paint over top. But I have a feeling that it would just look like a slightly dulled metallic solid color , based on my experience with dullcote and metallic paints.

Green Stuff World produces a lot of interesting specialist paints, including fluorescent and “chameleon” colour-shifting paints. Now they expanded their paint range with a set of acrylic metallic paints, including coloured metallics like red, violet, green and blue. Non-toxic and suitable for both paint- and airbrush, they promise super-fine pigments, ultrahigh coverage power and fast drying times. In this review, we take a look at all 14 Metal Colors and see how they’ll stand up to the competition. Lastly I took pure White Scar and did a smaller highlight in the middle of the previous one. On larger glowing areas, like on the Canoptek Reanimator, I had to do more layers to get a smoother blend. The traditional answer to this has been to use lacquer/organic solvent based carriers for metallic paints. If you’ve ever experimented with Mr Color or Gaia Notes lacquer based metallic paint, or Tamiya Enamel based metallics, they offer a much cleaner and well formed metallic paint layer with low flake visibility. The other parts of the models are more consistent – the shiny insectoid carapace uses Gryph-Charger Grey over a Leadbelcher basecoat, with added highlights of thin striped Stormhost Silver , all followed up with a wash of Terradon Turquoise thinned with Contrast Medium . The meat and bone bits are Flesh Tearers Red over Wraithbone, with Pallid Wych Flesh highlights. The meaty parts then got a thinned Volupus Pink wash, while the talons and hooves were finished with a wash of Gryph-Charger Grey. Gav: Termagants and Neurogaunts The other important part with Iron Warriors is that they must be miserable. They have to be down in filthy, broken mud and toxic landscapes and the basing is essential to that. And toxic basing is easy and fun to do, you can really go wild with it.
