The rest of the VIDAA U4 experience is basically fine, and if that sounds like damning with faint praise, then it probably is. It’s usable, responsive and pleasant looking but, as with many TV UIs, we aren't convinced that the content suggestions are all that helpful, particularly when they require subscriptions and rental fees to access them. We do, at least, like that the content is grouped by genre and that it’s made clear which service they’re on before you select them. HDR support is rather impressive for a more affordable TV (all the main formats are listed) and there’s HDMI 2.1 support with eARC, ALLM and VRR available across the three HDMI inputs (eARC on HDMI 2). The Hisense U8GQ is the company’s top-of-the-line LED LCD set. It replaces the U8QF from last year, carrying the same design and several of the same features, too. You'll get colourful, sharp picture quality even though the HDR brightness could be better. And the design of the set will look smart in your living room. It's a shame that the sound isn't quite up to par, but that’s easily solved by hooking up a separate soundbar.

The Hisense 55A7GQTUK QLED Series TV does not feature MicroLED technology. MicroLED technology is relatively new and provides even better color accuracy and brightness levels than OLED and QLED technology. However, MicroLED TVs are expensive and have yet to be widely available. This TV has a problem with motion when watching 24fps content. Unfortunately, that includes most film and premium TV, whether played from a disc or streamed from a service such as Netflix, or through a media streamer. The video processing in the Hisense U7QF is powered by the Hi-View Engine which helps with motion and scaling of images. We found the upscaling to be good with only the odd instance of ringing around fine lines in some test patterns, but this was not visible in the vast majority of HD content we viewed. There are even some gamer-friendly features such as a 60Hz refresh rate, although there aren't any HDMI 2.1 ports here.

The Hisense 55A7GQTUK QLED Series TV comes with four HDMI ports, connecting multiple devices, such as gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, or streaming devices. Which leads me to the one egregious aspect of the A7G’s design. The stand is just too big. If you have an area (or whatever furniture you’re using) big enough to accommodate both the A7G and a soundbar – and you will want to partner this TV with a soundbar – then it’s fine. If you don’t, the stand causes some unnecessary faffing about to make space. The supplied remote control is a traditional long plastic affair with the buttons all laid out in a logical manner. There are easy to use menu and directional keys as well as direct one-press access to apps such as Freeview Play, Netflix and Prime, to name three. The remote sits neatly in the hand and is easy to use.
