So saying – I’ll be treating the Tripster over the next few months with an upgrade to shimano full hydraulic / 11 speed, which I’m looking forward to. Whilst most countries do have reasonably high thresholds before charging these fees, it is worth mentioning, and is sadly not something we can do anything about. Hydraulic pistons are actuated by a normal brake cable - so you can keep your existing rim brake shifters. The F1/M1 is the latest addition to the Juin Tech stable, sold as a set including mounting bolts, adaptors and rotors. Despite being forced to brake from the hoods, I brought the bike to a complete standstill with minimal fuss, avoiding what would have been a certain crash with lesser brakes.

Well the brakes didn't immediately feel much more powerful than the cable disc brakes (Hayes CX Expert) fitted previously, but after a week or two of riding the pads had bedded in nicely. We previously tested Juin Tech's R1 brakes (you can read the review here) so were keen to take a look at their latest offering. But once they've bedded in, they'll allow you to brake later and more confidently, and that's definitely worth paying for. When working well they are ok but they seem to need regular adjustment and loose bite quite regularly. Roads, bridleways, canal paths, deep muddy puddles – all these conditions and more were thrown at them, along with some aggressive riding, and the R1s haven't put a foot wrong yet. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .

Our Colorado-based team previously found that TRP's similar HY/RD model didn't suffer any noticeable brake fade on long descents of Boulder's Flagstaff mountain, and indications are good that the Juin Tech R1 brakes handle themselves similarly. In contrast to a mechanical brake, both brake pistons of the JUIN F1 move evenly in a movement parallel to the brake disc. Yes, these are some of the lightest disc brakes available (designed for adults) but they're also a closed hydraulic circuit design, providing hydraulic power where it's needed at the pistons, but cable actuated, so they can still be used with short-reach shifters needed by children.

These brakes were put through their paces on some of the most gruelling descents you would every try to ride a cross bike down.I am okay with the performance on gravel but any sort of technical cross style riding gets very difficult quickly. A week of commuting and an anticipated very muddy cx race on Sunday should put them through their paces this week. Ok, not as good as a fully sealed hydraulic system, but I find them more robust than mechanical discs in wet and mud as I find mechanical systems fill their guys with crap and stop working effeectively. All was well; on wet descents they scrubbed off speed smoothly and noticeably quicker than my rim brakes on carbon rims.
