My only real criticism is that it’s possible for the iPad to stick in a position where it isn’t properly aligned, and from which it could easily fall. It’s true that the taller position does feel a little precarious if you start tapping on the iPad display, but when used for viewing it’s actually a very clever and neat solution for raising up the device. Some are basic, some are stylish or super-bendy, one comes with an array of handy ports, and one looks like a cuddly toy.

As much as I want to integrate iPads into my daily work and leisure time, they’re so easily sidelined, thanks to the comfort of macOS on my M1 MacBook Air, and the ease with which you can do everything on an iPhone these days. Strong built-in magnet , the Magnetic Stand uses these magnets to attach the iPad and display it like a small floating monitor. Both the hinge and the rotating back plate remain perfectly still when you aren't manually adjusting the angle, so you don't have to worry about the iPad wobbling when in use. When I saw the MagFlött magnetic iPad stand (and its incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign), I was intrigued by its taller and more versatile design so reached out to CharJenPro, the company behind it. The hinge is stiff (possibly a little too stiff) and the magnets confidently take a hold of your iPad.Living in London in the UK, Gerald was previously Editor of Gizmodo UK, and Executive Editor of TechRadar, and has covered international trade shows including Apple's WWDC, MWC, CES and IFA. It has clearly been inspired by Apple's M1 iMac in a long tradition of premium accessory makers cribbing Apple's design language. If you want a stand that brings your iPad up to your eye level, you'll need to find another solution. Both adjustments are just done by hand, and the resistance is just right – solid enough to stay perfectly in place, while also feeling smooth and easy to adjust.

Both of these features are brilliant methods for integrating the iPad into your daily work, but they’re rather incomplete without something to place your iPad on – hence the need for some form of stand. The only drawback is that the orientation is landscape, when portrait mode allows you to see more of the recipe at once. Under the stand, there's a non-slip rubber surface, so it stays put on your desk, and the backplate also features a thin layer of silicone to protect the back of your iPad. And it’s all connected to an arm that can elevate your iPad about 19cm, itself on a hinge (that Benks recommends setting between 55 and 75-degrees).

Though this exact look has been phased out with the M1 iMac, the design still feels very Apple-like in functionality, fit, and finish.
