We use Understrap for most of our WordPress projects. We find it is a great starting point for just about any design. If you’re using a child theme, nothing should change. The default setting is still Bootstrap 4. While the option to switch between Bootstrap 4 and 5 will appear as a Customizer setting, any child theme will still load its own version of Bootstrap. Any child theme author who wants to use Bootstrap 5 will have to migrate their code manually. Compute the navbar-brand padding-y so the navbar-brand will have the same height as navbar-text and nav-link While most themes limit you or force layouts/elements on you, Understrap gets out of your way and let’s you be creative. I have been using understrap to develop wordpress theme for personal uses. I must say having the gulp stream to minify files and create a distributed theme folder is one of the blessings that this project has brought for me.

There’s nothing bloating it. It’s also been a great learning experience for our juniors to work with and better understand WordPress and all the great tools that come with Understrap. Understrap is an amazing starter theme! I’ve used it on many projects, it’s got everything you need to start your project and it saves hours of development. The most common place to start for any design is the color palette. This brings in the basic look and feel of the brand and cuts down on that repetitive process of looking up color codes. We start by defining the actual colors we might have available (i.e. blue, green, white, etc.) and then assign those colors to some widely-used ‘theme variables’ like “primary,” “success,” “danger,” etc. These colors then form the foundation for many of the other Bootstrap elements. 2. Spacer Thanks to the technology I know (Bootstrap, Gulp, SASS and more) Understrap is the best basis for any front-end project. The navwalker class and the widget hero carousel remain pretty much the same. The WooCommerce templates stayed mostly the same as well. In places where the class names were slightly updated for Bootstrap 5, we tried to keep both class names in place instead of duplicating entire template files.
