If the novel had been longer, one of the things that I would have liked to see was Faenir coming to terms with Arlo's mortality or the two of them finding a cure for it and then coming to terms with Arlo's mortality. I love how, although the story has subtle nods to the original myths and tales, Alderson makes it his own. The spice, the story, the tie in to the previous Darkmourn book (lord of eternal night) it was fantastic! I liked the idea of a Hades and Persephone retelling but the story was a little too mismatched for my liking. The pacing of the plot was bizarre and the ending felt like a jumble of things happened at once without me really understanding what was happening.

Not to mention that out of all the times they do hook up, there isn't a single instance where they practice safe sex. The ending of King wasn't that bad but only because I already knew what would happen (well, not the last chapter 35 obviously). The author did an amazing job in keeping interest throughout and creating an emotional understanding and bond for the characters in it. All it took for Arlo to actually throw himself into Faenir's arms was Myrinn telling him about why the queen hated Faenir.All this trying to do proper world building while every emotional climax being underwhelming, doesn't work well.

Still ima continue this series because its brainless entertainment and im interested in seeing what happens.
