For some reason, I can't see 3D properly in the cinema anymore, but I can in my VR headset, so I really want to watch this in 3D at home on my VR headset. Following Strange World, Disney's new animated feature - Wish - will not be getting a 4K disc release in the UK: just DVD and Blu-ray.

Bowser is to marry Peach and if she refuses, Bowser will destroy the Mushroom Kingdom, which leads Mario to save his new friends and his brother, and team up with some Nintendo favorites along the way. From the studio that brings animated hits such as "Despicable Me" and "Sing", and starring Golden Globe Winner Anya-Taylor Joy and comedy masters Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, comes the latest fun adventure based on Nintendo's globally successful video game franchise about a mustachioed plumber Mario and his lanky brother, Luigi, in their quest to save Princess Peach from villain Bowser. Teaming up with Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) and the Kong army, Mario joins the battle to save the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser's Koopa and Goomba armies as he fights his way across the kingdom to rescue Luigi. Babylon 5: The Road Home is an animated continuation of the television series, and a trailer has been released. OK, so the trailers really set the movie up for something bigger than it actually was, such as the expectation of more Mario themed music throughout the film, but instead, was more generic music heard from films over the last 30 years.Those Teen Titans filmmakers Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic surely knew the fine line to walk when making such an iconic property that could appeal to all ages and fans of the game. A commentary track and maybe some more behind-the-scenes of the voice actors having fun with the characters could have been shown, but this hour's worth of material is better than average.

EDIT: So I just popped in the disc and it has the excact set up as the other Universal DVDs with how it presents the trailers and everything, so I can confidently say that this is a legitimate DVD. Luigi is sent to the Dark Lands where he is imprisoned by King Bowser (Jack Black), and Mario is transported to the Mushroom Kingdom where he meets Princess Peach (Anya Taylor Joy) and Toad (Keegan Michael Key).

There's also a lovely limited Tin Star Edition (4K in the UK, Blu-ray in the US) that is essentially an even fancier Steelbook. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Top of the box office charts for 2023, and by some distance, is The Super Mario Bros Movie, the spiritual successor to the 1993 live action version. Pratt does serviceable work as well, but it feels stale or out of place more than anything, but it's clear that Nintendo and Universal agreed that a big named actor who's had success in voice work lead this pack.

While Sony and Microsoft continue to create super fun and action-packed video games year after year, it's Nintendo - the classic mainstream gaming console that still maintains its original properties to this day with amazing video games that never go out of style or become stagnant.Nintendo's focus has always been its video games and consoles, very rarely stepping outside that wheelhouse into other forms of entertainment.
