When recording with them you will be able to capture the true essence of the instruments. Lastly, the Rode M5 doesn’t come with a PAD or a High-Pass filter, which is actually quite common in small diaphragm condenser microphones in this price range. How does it sound? Lewitt LCT 040 The one thing that I would say you need to be careful with is the mic clip, it’s a simple plastic one and not really of the best quality.Although Behringer is famous for making quality high-end equipment, the company is also well-known for offering tempting budget gear. The Behringer C-2 is perhaps one of the best examples of this. However, now microphones are no longer made by hand and the differences between the same model are practically none, which means that you no longer have to search for “matched pairs” since you can get two of the same microphone and they will perform pretty much the same. List of the best Stereo Pair Microphones Given some of its specific attributes, especially a good SPL level, the Samson CO2 gives a decent performance in the studio. It can work with a wide variety of instruments and vocals at a decent level. Therefore for those that are on a tight budget, it is an ideal option. In fact, considering the quality, it’s one of the most affordable condenser microphones on the market.

A switchable 20 dB attenuation pad in each mic allows you to use the pair with loud instruments, doing so with a favorable signal-to-noise ratio. The Rode M5 pair excels in the mid and high frequencies in my opinion, since it doesn’t sound shrill or add any harshness or crispiness to the sound while still sounding open and airy, which is why it works great with guitars, percussion (especially overheads), strings, woodwinds, brass, pianos, and other similar instruments, as well as choirs. I would have thought that polar patterns and frequency response are more important. Wouldn’t they have greater control over bleed rather than the dynamic or condenser scenario? The Condenser advantage One huge plus though is that the capsules are interchangeable, which will come in handy if one breaks or if you simply want the hyper-cardioid or omnidirectional polar patterns. Before you go out to buy your new mic, you must answer that question. The age-old argument and a subject that can cause controversy. But at the end of the day, it can often come down to what you want to use the mic for. I participated in a blind test of sixty small capsule microphones, the result has been published in Tape Op. Each member of the jury had to listen to the sixty mono folk guitar made and retain 15. Samson CO2 was my selection with Neumann, Schoeps, DPA, Sanken etc. It certainly was not the one I liked and he was not among the 15 most selected by all members, which included eight of my selection, I says to reassure you about the quality of my ears wink .dropoff Window It was after this test I bought the If an item can not be repaired, a similar alternative product or cash discount (as defined in this policy) will be offered They are made out of aluminum which makes them quite light, even though I’ve always been the kind of guy who prefers heavier microphones… I don’t know, I generally feel as if heavier mics are sturdier! But these should last you forever if you take good care of them. What I’m trying to say is that you’d be better off using a dynamic (moving-coil) microphone like the AKG P5S if you were working in these conditions and wanted to record anything other than percussive instruments.

The frequency response is given as 40Hz-20kHz, and this tallies with the enclosed graph. There's a gentle presence peak centred at around 8kHz, which usually helps a mic sound airy without it becoming hard or edgy, below which the response is generally flat until the low end starts to roll off gently below 100Hz or so reaching -3dB at about 50Hz. The maximum SPL is a hefty 134dB, so drum kits and guitar amps aren't going to intimidate this mic, but at the same time you'll get plenty of signal from an acoustic guitar or other instrument of similar sound level. Overall the dynamic range is 112dB and there are no pad or roll-off switches on the mic. Studio Tests They have a tighter polar pattern. I've heard conflicting information but I believe they are indeed supercardiod. This is actually why I don't use them as drum overheads. They sound great on cymbals but I didn't care for stereo field. I record in a tighter space and that is definitely a factor. They'd make a great hihat mic, I just didn't have the extra preamp for it. Another issue you have to be careful of with the Cardioid pattern is the Proximity effect. As you move closer to a mic with a Cardioid pattern, you may notice an increase in the lower frequencies. This is known as the proximity effect. It doesn’t occur with an omnidirectional pattern. The main difference comes down to the cost, since both microphones sound fairly similar and I don’t think that one could be considered as better than the other one.

Tech Specs

They are an ideal addition to the smaller or home studio. Giving you an audio performance that is more than acceptable at a very affordable price point. But also with a variety of options for how and where you use them. The frequency response is slightly restrictive coming in at 50 Hz – 20,000 Hz. Now, that’s pretty typical when we’re talking about overhead microphones, but I would’ve personally been better off with 20 Hz – 20,000 Hz.

The Samson C02 is a great option if you don’t want to spend too much or if you don’t have any experience with pencil microphones and just want to try them out.

Specifications

If the microphones acted differently your left and right channels would not sound the same, which could result in timbre anomalies between them, affecting the stereo image.
